Welcome to a new season at Rankins Roses 2011

Roses often have special meaning to us; colours, fragrances and rose variety names are some of the reasons we choose the roses we love.

Many roses are named after famous people, i.e. Sir Donald Bradman, Queen Elizabeth, or Dame Elisabeth Murdoch or for wider emotional appeal varieties like: In Appreciation, First Love, Seduction, Best Friend, Thankyou or Warm Wishes.

This season I am pleased to be working closely with Melissa King, a wonderful presenter on the Garden Gurus TV program. Together we are releasing a beautiful new rose with a very special meaning; "Mother and Daughter"

This rose was a seedling discovered at my rose farm some 7 years ago, a large sulphur-yellow Hybrid Tea rose with a most magnificent fruity rose fragrance. Melissa came up with the terrific name of my rose to celebrate her great relationship with her mum; who recently died from Motor Neurone Disease.

This terrible disease is incurable and effects over 1400 people in Australia each year. Researchers across the world are constantly working to find answers as to the cause and hopefully eventual cure for sufferers.

I teamed up with Melissa on this rose for her story with her mum and also because my family has been touched by this terrible disease, with my mother and grandmother dying from Motor Neurone Disease.

To support MND research Melissa and I are donating part of each sale to MND Australia and hope that with many sales across the nation we can help in some way to raise awareness of this horrible disease and also help fund further research into a cure.
